In order to promote the scientific and technological progress of the industry, communicate the latest achievements and advanced practical technologies, facilitate the establishment of the aggregates science and technology system, and boost the healthy and orderly development as well as high-quality development of the aggregates industry, the 7th National Sand and Aggregates Industry Science and Technology Conference was held by China Aggregates Association in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province from August 27 to 30. Nanchang Mineral Systems Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “NMS”) was one of the co-organizers of the conference. During the conference, Li Shunshan, Deputy President of China Aggregates Association & Chairman of NMS, presided over the special report session and gave the report on “Market Challenges and Countermeasures of Manufactured Sand in the Future”.

The National Sand and Aggregates Industry Science and Technology Conference is held once a year, which is the bellwether of scientific and technological innovation in China’s aggregates industry and a crucial platform for promoting scientific and technological communication and cooperation. More than 1400 people attended the conference, whose theme is “science & technology, empowerment, mission and responsibility”.
It is urgent to construct a modern aggregates industry system
Hu Youyi, President of China Aggregates Association, made a keynote speech entitled “Scientific and Innovative Development of Aggregates – Establishment of the Modern Aggregates Industry System”. He pointed out that aggregates were the most used materials for infrastructure construction. Chinese government has attached great importance to the development of aggregates industry, and the construction of new infrastructure and new urbanization initiatives and major projects has provided huge market demand. It is an industry favored by all walks of life. The aggregates and equipment industries will enter the second round of competition and adjustment, which is more intense than the first round. In order to make the aggregates industry from big to strong and achieve a new leap forward, it is urgent to construct a modern aggregates industry system to support high-quality development. Colleagues in the aggregates and equipment industries should provide solid support for the green and high-quality development of the aggregates industry through the concept, technology, mode and all-round innovations.

The report illustrated that the five major sources of aggregates in the future would be: natural aggregates mining (including river and waterway desilting, etc.), recycling of construction solid waste, reuse of road construction tunnel slag, recycling of tailings and waste rock, and natural quarries. The manufactured sand &aggregates from natural quarry will be the main supply source in the future. The future development mode of the ore industry was put forward as follows: aggregates 1.0 – green eco-friendly plant; 2.0 – extend aggregates industry chain; 3.0 – green building materials industrial park; 4.0 – eco-industrial park with quarry mining as the source; 4.0+ – integrated development of the industry.
The report also demonstrated that the aggregates industry has unique advantages. Aggregates enterprises should make full use of them, take the road to mutual development with other industries and push mining industry to a higher and broader level, build a life community of “mountain, river, forest, fields, lake and grass”, protect the ecological environment, serve the national infrastructure construction, and make new and greater contributions to build a beautiful China.
Provide more intelligent, eco-friendly and efficient equipment as well as solutions for the industry
At the conference, Li Shunshan, Deputy President of China Aggregates Association & Chairman of NMS, gave a theme report on “Market Challenges and Countermeasures of Manufactured Sand in the Future”. From the macro point of view, considering the current situation and economic characteristic, he analyzed the “secret of manufactured sand” through a series of data analysis and reasoning demonstration. He said that, currently the manufactured sand is facing three major challenges which are quality, demand and price. The market recognition for the quality of manufactured sand is not enough, the demand is lower than that of natural river sand, sea sand (washed) and mountain sand. Also, the cost of manufactured sand is high but the selling price is low. “The problem of manufactured sand is not technical but economic. The promotion of manufactured sand is not only a quality issue but also an economic one”. He believed that the core of high-quality manufactured sand lay in equipment and technology, and the selection of process and equipment for manufactured sand should focus on its quality.

The report also listed several widely used manufacturing processes of engineering manufactured sand, and the key to dry sand making method was accurate screening and high efficient crushing. He said that based on solid technical strength, NMS had decades’ experience in manufacturing crushers and vibration screens, and had accumulated rich experience in design and production. The product quality is reliable, equipment operation is stable, failure rate is low and the wearing parts are easy to replace. For the screening, from 1970 to 2020, more than 13,000 sets of NMS screening machines have been sold to global customers. And for dry sand making, since 2003, more than 1,000 sets of VSI crushers of NMS have been sold to global customers.
In addition, NMS has decades of sand-making technology and experience, and its sand-making tower has a series of performance strengths. The MSP sand-making tower is equipped with efficient crusher, hydraulic high-frequency screen and integrated powder separator. It has the characteristics of high sand output rate, high screening efficiency, less circulation, high capacity, high integration, less maintenance and wide adaptability. It offers customers lower operating cost and labor input to achieve higher production efficiency, thus has been successfully applied in many projects.
